My shoots are a safe space for you and your family to explore and enjoy.
Here are my top tips to help you prepare.
Plan ahead
I really recommend packing a bag the night before. As a mum of three, I know firsthand how difficult it is to get out of the house on time sometimes. Doing this makes a big difference to how the morning flows. The less you have to stress about the better! Organise, lay out and iron/steam all outfits the night before and have them laid out, ready to go! Plan to arrive 30 minutes before your designated session time. Never underestimate how easy it is to run behind. Do this and you will give yourself time to breathe before the shoot begins.
What to bring?
The baby bag with everything you will need. Nappies, wipes, milk (if not breastfeeding), dummy, muslin for sick/dribble. A change of clothes, just incase! SNACKS! Nobody wants a hungry little one and they can be used as bribery if necessary A drink for yourselves and the little ones if it is a location shoot. For a newborn shoot, you may want to bring an older sibling something to keep them busy!
Happy Kids
We do want to avoid them being tired or hungry, so feed them beforehand and try to schedule the session for after a naptime or in the morning before they get too tired. I understand that this can be difficult for an outdoor shoot, as they are always scheduled for an evening sunset. But if you are happy to throw their routine off for just 1 day, I promise it will be well worth it! Make sure their outfits are comfortable (take weather into consideration). Tell them beforehand that you are coming for a photoshoot. You could reward them with something after the shoot, if they are good. Go for an ice-cream or a get a favourite treat.
No Pressure!
Do not have any expectations. Just come relaxed as possible and we will be taking the children's lead. I would never expect any child to behave "perfectly"... (whatever perfect even means.) They are all different and that's all part of their charm. Enjoy the phase that they are in! If they are a cheeky toddler who does'nt want to listen, then that's fine! I will capture that mischievous little face that you love, I have no doubt you will laugh about it afterwards. Just let them be themselves and take the pressure off and lets laugh together. I can assure you, there is no judgement here!! And remember I am here to guide you all and help get them smiles too.
Of course the above will all be very helpful but as a mum of three I also understand that things can (and often do), unexpectedly happen - a poonami, toddler tantrum or grumpy hubby... I've seen it ALL and these things are out of our control, so do not worry. I am here to help.
I can't wait to see you soon!
Leanne xx
